Traditions on the Intellect

The origin of man is his intellect, and his nobleness is his religion, and his kindness is his piety, and all are equal in being the children of Adam.

The intellect is the best of characteristics.

The virtue of a man is his intellect, and his beauty is his chivalry.

Man’s best luck is his intellect, if he becomes low it will cherish him, and if he falls it will lift him, and if he goes astray it will guide him, and if he speaks it will protect him.

The intellect and foolishness will continue to struggle between each other within one for eighteen years. So when one reaches that age the stronger one of the two will prevail over the other.

There are two types of intellect: The natural intellect and the experienced intellect, and both carry out its efficacy.

Allah, The Supreme, gave Angels intellect without desire, and gave beasts desire without intellect, and gave the son of Adam both of them. So those whose intellect prevails over their desire will become better than Angels, and those whose desire prevails over their intellect will be more evil than the beasts.

The heard intellect without it being natural is of no benefit; just the same as the sun will not benefit an eye that cannot see brightness.
